Car Hire Bordeaux
It seems obvious to state that Bordeaux is all about the wine but it's almost true. It's made here. It's drunk here.
It's in the cooking. It's the trade in wine that built such a gorgeous city, there's a wine school, and you can even bathe in it at the Spa de Vinothérapie Caudalie (Wine Spa). The Spa is about 20 minutes south of Bordeaux so how about hiring a car to really make the most of this beautiful wine country. Start in the city at École du Vin, within the Maison du Vin de Bordeaux (Bordeaux House of Wine), for a course in wine tasting then hop in the car and head out into the vineyards taking in the sights and sampling some of the fabulous wines. Other than the obvious attraction of the wine, Bordeaux is a fabulous place of neoclassical architecture and with a largely pedestrianised central area it's easy to visit all the sights on foot, leaving the hire car for days went you want to explore further beyond.
Bordeaux has some sights to equal Paris and lacks the bustle of the tourist crowds so visiting the impressive churches is a pleasure rather than a scramble. The Basilique Saint Seurin, and Cathédrale Saint-André both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are as stunning as the Sacré Coeur and Nôtre Dame, they just happen to be in Bordeaux rather than Paris. Bordeaux is also no slacker on the Museum front. The CAPC Musée d'Art Contemporain exhibits 1,000 pieces of art dating from 1960 onwards, the Musée d'Aquitaine is your spot for ancient history to come alive and the buildings that house the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs are as impressive as the exhibits they hold. Bordeaux is a beautifully cultural city with a vivacious outlook that just sings out for your approval. À votre santé.
