Car Hire Menorca Airport
Menorca Airport, which is also sometimes called Mahón Airport, is the airport that serves the Balearic Island of Menorca in the Mediterranean Sea, next to Spain. The airport is located 4.5km (2.8 miles) Southwest of Mahón. The airport is relatively old in comparison to most of Spain's International airports, as it was opened in 1969. The usage of the airport is relatively high for such a small Island: 48 airlines operate from the airport. The airport is named after the Island that it lies on, but the Catalan spelling is used rather than the Spanish spelling of 'Minorca'. There are 5 car rental companies to choose from at the airport. The rental desks can be seen on entrance into the arrivals hall, across from the baggage collection carousels. There are some great deals to be had in winter as the companies will be fighting for business due to the decreased passenger numbers.
Menorca Airport carried 2,511,626 passengers, and 28,357 flight operations in the year 2010. Most of the passengers that pass through the airport are British, German, and Italian, with most passengers now arriving with low-cost airlines. The airport serves 36 airports in total, and airlines such as Flybe, Air Berlin, EasyJet, and Jet2 utilize the airport more than twice daily each. Taxis and shuttle buses are readily available at very cheap prices from the airport to Mahón with services at least every 15 minutes on weekdays. As the airport is only 4.5km from Mahón the road journey is quite short, as travel from one side of the Island to the other only takes around an hour. Menorca Airport has several bars and restaurants in the terminal, both in the departures and arrivals halls. The public are also welcome to watch the planes taking off from the public arrivals hall restaurants.
