Car Hire Vigo Airport
Vigo-Peinador Airport (Spanish: Aeropuorto de Vigo) is an average sized airport that is located 8km (5 miles) from the centre of Vigo. The airport is situated in three municipalities in Spain; Redondela, Vigo, and Mos. The building of this airport has had a shaky history. There are 3 car rental services available at the airport, and because of the layout of the airport terminal, these desks can be seen and accessed from both the departure and arrivals halls.
The idea and planning to build this airport was started in 1927 when the area needed a cargo delivery airport. As the airport building was originally started by free-labour workers, these workers withdrew their work, but in 1947 the local Government took control of the building and finished the building of the terminal and runway in 1952, with operations starting in 1954. In 1981 the airport received its first International flight from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. Seven airlines fly from the airport, those being: Air Nostrum, Iberia, Vueling, Spanair, Iberworld, Air Europa, and Air France. Plans to expand the airport and build a new control tower could allow for more and larger International flights to arrive at the airport. The airport can be easily reached on the N-556 road from Vigo, N-555 from Redondela and A-52 from Orense. The two first roads also link up with the AP-9 motorway leading to Bayona and Portugal. Local bus and taxi services are available regularly to and from the airport. Three shops are housed in the airport terminal. A costume jewellery and accessories shop called La Gata Negra; A Multi-shop; and a handicrafts shop called Madorarte. There are no VIP or business lounges available at the airport as it is primarily a local airport with little need for the transportation of VIP passengers.
